G'day, I'm Matt. I'm an independent developer based in Wingham, near Taree on the NSW Mid North Coast.
SparkAhead is my way of helping businesses get modern, beautifully built websites and useful custom software — without the unnecessary complexity or overhead of a big agency.
A BIT ABOUT ME
I came to software through real problems.
I've spent much of my working life in the oyster industry. Working in a real business teaches you pretty quickly that software doesn't earn its keep by looking clever. It has to solve a problem, be straightforward to use and work when people need it.
That practical mindset is what led me into development. I taught myself to code, started building tools for problems I understood first-hand and kept learning as the technology changed.
These days, one of my main projects is FarmTide, a farm-management web application I've built from the ground up. Alongside that, I've been working on business website rebuilds and e-commerce projects — everything from a familiar restaurant website getting a modern refresh to personalised online shopping experiences.
I enjoy both ends of the spectrum: a beautiful, simple website that makes a small business look its best, and a complicated application that solves a genuinely difficult operational problem.
